It’s ​been ​many ​years ​since ​Cairo ​Bears ​graced ​the ​streets ​of ​Cairo, ​Acra, ​Roundtop, ​Purling, South ​Cairo, ​and ​South ​Durham. ​The ​Cairo ​Development ​Foundation ​is ​bringing ​back ​Cairo Bears ​as ​a ​fundraiser ​to ​benefit ​the ​Cairo ​Development ​Foundation, ​the ​town ​of ​Cairo ​and surrounding ​communities. Make ​plans ​to ​host ​a ​decorated ​fiberglass ​Bear ​for ​the ​summer. ​They ​will ​be ​decorated ​by ​a juried ​artist ​who ​will ​be ​selected by ​​the ​sponsor, ​and also ​by ​the “Cairo ​Bears ​Are ​Back! 2018” ​Committee. ​Bears ​will ​be ​on ​display ​all ​summer ​throughout ​the ​Town ​and ​Village ​of Cairo ​and ​will ​be ​auctioned ​on ​the ​third ​weekend ​in ​September ​2018 ​at ​the ​Auction ​& ​Gala.

The Bears will on display from Memorial​ ​Day​ ​Weekend in May through Labor Day in September of 2018.

Following ​their ​summer ​on ​the ​street, ​the ​Bears ​are ​auctioned ​off ​at ​our ​“Cairo ​Bears ​Are Back!” ​Auction ​and ​Gala. ​The ​profits ​are ​then ​divided ​up. ​Firstly, ​in ​profound ​appreciation ​for the ​work ​done ​by ​our ​artists, ​they ​will ​receive ​a ​30% ​share ​of ​the ​gross ​amount ​that ​their Bear ​is ​auctioned for. ​The ​net ​proceeds ​will ​go ​towards ​the ​Cairo ​Development ​Foundation ​for future ​projects ​to ​beautify ​and ​improve ​the ​Town ​Of ​Cairo ​and ​promote ​a ​business ​friendly atmosphere ​in ​our ​community.
